Continuous Improvement Expert

Job location(s): Mechelen, Belgium (or any other BU European site)


The Business Unit Continuous Improvement (CI) Expert will strive and develop the Continuous Improvement culture and activities for the entire Starch and Sweeteners Business Unit.

He/she will conduct activities related to governance and control, project deployment, capability-tools and culture development, as well as business partnership.

The job holder will provide sound and comprehensive expertise in CI and lean manufacturing capabilities to the whole organization while focusing in sustained productivity in the plants (9 locations in Europe), and will act as a training specialist.

He/she will ensure functional alignment with Manufacturing Excellence Technical leads who have responsibility in the fields of Maintenance & Reliability, Manufacturing Technologies and Capital Excellence.



Major Tasks

Drives the overall Continuous Improvement strategy across the Business Unit in alignment with the Manufacturing Excellence function.
Ensures execution of CI strategies for the Starch and Sweeteners Business Unit
Identifies areas for stabilizing or enhancing performance of assets that improve business results
Researches and develops continuous improvement tools and methods (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc...)
Facilitates and coaches teams to deliver improvements in process capability, productivity and quality
Drives process improvement initiatives throughout the Starch and Sweeteners Business Unit, and may extend to suppliers and customers
Develops and maintain Continuous Improvement project scorecards and dashboards to ensure identified improvements are successfully implemented
Deploys Continuous Improvement capability and culture change for Starch and Sweeteners Business Unit by providing advanced advice, supports and coaching to Business Unit leadership teams on Continuous Improvement topics
Develops trainings and educational material development, and ensures exchange of best practice
Creates performance tools to measure Continuous Improvement implementation
Collaborates with Business Unit / Function leadership to build accountability of Continuous Improvement culture, processes and projects
Acts as a point of reference for Continuous Improvement areas towards stakeholders and involved collaborators in Continuous Improvement process
The Continuous Improvement Expert will report to the Business Unit Manufacturing Excellence Leader

Technical education degree (or equivalent experience) and demonstrated success in process improvement

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certified or candidate

Proven expertise in business and production processes

Minimum of 2 years experience in Continuous Improvement based activities in industrial environment

Proven success in developing, implementing and leading initiatives/project plans

Excellent communication and convincing skills (e.g. for trainings, meetings, reports, presentations, events etc…)

Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Power Point

Experienced in building, developing and maintaining internal and external network

Trained and experienced in developing and leading class room training and to train the trainer is a plus

Gained experienced multinational company is an asset

Experience within a manufacturing environment, chemical/starchy industry is preferable

Ready to travel (about 20% time).

English mandatory; any other local European Language is highly appreciated
