Job Description

Ensure that Business Groups are timely and correctly informed on the latest regulatory requirements and upcoming changes of environmental legislations addressing Energy Efficiency and Eco Design as well as future product environmental compliance trends in European Region.
Possibility to develop further to support on product take-back and recycling compliance related issues
Identify and secure legal tracking tools (databases, newspapers, etc.) for the above-mentioned legislation
The “region” covers geographical Europe, Russia, former Soviet Union countries, Turkey and Israel.


A Product Compliance Engineer is responsible for legal tracking, interpretation and, in cooperation with HQ, concluding on necessary actions with regards to the new and updated legislation affecting Sony products. She/ He acts as a representative of Sony at different trade associations, and provides professional support on expert subject to internal stakeholders to allow a rapid reaction on customer requests and arising obstacles incl. market surveillance activities. 1. Legal Tracking: 1.1. Identify and contract appropriate tracking tools to support legal tracking 1.2. Identify and follow-up on upcoming and updated European environmental legislations addressing Energy Efficiency & Eco Design and market needs affecting products by utilizing tracking tools and established networ 1.3. Analyse regulatory requirements legally & technically 1.4. Coordinate, review and consolidate the analysis of local regulatory requirements done by in-country support 1.5. Provide analysis and advice to HQ on policy developments regarding Eco Design Framework Directive, Eco Design Working Plans, Energy efficiency in the EU area 1.6. Inform HQ timely on needs to adapt product design in time to comply with related legislation 1.7. Draft & define, in cooperation with HQ, guidelines and instructions with appropriate conformity actions for Business Groups to secure compliant products are placed on the market 1.8. When required, follow-up on conformity actions (e.g. Declaration of Conformities) with local branch offices, Sony sites and European Business Units to secure compliance 2. Lobbying activities: 2.1. Lobbying: 2.1.1. Represent Sony in trade associations (e.g. Digital Europe) and steer trade association output to reflect company's interests 2.2. Standardization 2.2.1. Monitor and analyse harmonized standards: Monitor EU OJ publications to identify any newly listed standards Prepare analysis of the standards changes and inform BGs so that they can prepare to comply with sufficient lead-time Give input and work together with Product Compliance Analyst (handling DoCs) to properly prepare and launch DoC updates activities 2.2.2. Represent Sony in standardization bodies (national, European (CENELEC), or international (IEC) to secure Sony's input is raised and reflected 3. Internal Consultancy: 3.1. Advise Business Groups, in-country contacts, local sales/marketing in compliance related matters (e.g. interpretation of regulations/standards, requirements for new products etc.) 3.2. Act/report proactively when recognizing significant Business risks for Product compliance 3.3. Assist in-country contacts for local lobbying activities with governmental bodies, industry associations and standardisation bodies 3.4. Provide Sony expertise towards Market Surveillance in case of non-compliance or any enquiry in consultation with Quality & Environmental Division, Business Groups and Legal Affairs 4. Other: 4.1. Maintain close working relationship with Business Groups, Quality & Environmental Division, Legal Affairs Europe 4.2. Monitor competitors activities and practices to understand the market and to assess the risk (if Sony applies a deviating approach) 4.3. Ensure expert field related matters on SQE EPC internal web-site (including training materials) are maintained up-todate 4.4. Participate in/ lead internal compliance related projects SCOPE FOR DECISION MAKING: Deciding with SQE management on strategies and methods for collecting information and for lobbying (e.g. direct contact with authorities or participation in industry associations and standardisation bodies). Deciding on local compliance actions within the responsibility of SQE Environment & Product Compliance.
