Job Description

Software developer Computer Aided Functional Safety for the Vehicle of the Future (Automotive)
Flanders Make is the strategic research centre for the manufacturing industry. It combines the strengths of a team of application and system experts with the technological expertise of a range university labs that are an integral part of the Flanders Make network. The mission of the centre is to strengthen the long-term international competitiveness of the Flemish manufacturing industry by performing industry-driven, pre-competitive, excellent research in the technological domains of mechatronics, product development methods and advanced manufacturing technologies.

This research will result in applications for machines, vehicles, vehicle components and high-tech production systems at the participating companies.

To achieve this mission, Flanders Make conducts industry-driven joint projects and contract research assignments in the following research programs: Clean Energy-efficient Motion Systems, Smart Monitoring Systems, Autonomous Systems, Intelligent Product Design Methods, Design & Manufacturing of Smart and Lightweight Structures, Additive Manufacturing for Serial Production, Manufacturing for High Precision Components, Agile & Human-centered Production & Robotics Systems.
You develop software and perform simulations in research projects for the intelligent and autonomous vehicles of the future. You work together with your research colleagues, the universities and the automotive industry.

*Will you help us to develop software which automates functional safety analyses needed for the purpose of autonomous vehicles development?

*Will you help us to develop a self-driving bus that is able to analyze its own environment?

Flanders Make is working on the automation of  functional safety analysis and developing new methods for controlling vehicle behavior.

As a software developer and researcher in computer aided functional safety, you will:

- work together in a research team which combines expertise in functional safety, E/E architecture/software, control systems and system design for autonomous embedded systems;

- design the intelligent and computer aided toolchains supporting the development of autonomous vehicle of the future;

- play a key role in the automation of safety analyses for the intelligent and autonomous vehicles and in model based development of safety critical software;

- work together with the partners in the industry and universities and the research engineers in our sites in Lommel and Leuven;

- actively trace and present industrial challenges and research opportunities;

- disseminate the results in conferences and seminars.

More concretely, you will contribute in your team by:

-developing software which automates safety analyses e.g. HARA, HAZOP, FTA, FMEA, FMEDA;

-performing simulations being part of the automated functional safety toolchain using MATLAB/Simulink or other software tools;

-developing safety critical embedded software;

-implementing the technology in demonstrators and real life applications.

Your first challenge will be to develop software for the automation of safety analyses.

You have

A master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or Electrical/Electronics Engineering,
Knowledge of SQL databases, PHP programming, C/C++ programming, Phyton scripting,
Knowledge in modelling software (UML/SysML modeling, MATLAB/Simulink),
Some years of  relevant industrial experience for example as a software developer or as a functional safety engineer, is a plus.
Knowledge of functional safety standards e.g. ISO26262, IEC61508, EN5012x is a big plus.
You are

Passionate about research, safety and new technologies;
Analytical, systematic and able to turn ideas into high-tech solutions;
A team player and good communicator who can build sustainable relationships;
Eager to learn.
Flanders Make offers you

The opportunity to develop yourself in the network of top industry and universities and research institutes;
