As a Health, Safety & Environment Engineer within the Security, Compliance and Quality department, your main responsibilities will be to:
identify and assess laboratory risks (chemical, gas, electric, etc.) and implement preventive measures;
design, implement and follow-up security procedures in laboratories;
carry out internal audits in the laboratories and follow up on corrective and preventive actions;
provide health and safety recommendations in the event of infrastructure and equipment; changes (particularly for research activities in laboratories) and for the introduction of chemicals products and gases;
support the laboratory and equipment managers concerning employee safety;
report on specific risks to the executive level.
As a member of the Security, Compliance and Quality department, you will also contribute, when necessary to the following activities:
design and implementation of a health and safety management system;
follow-up of commodo-incommodo authorizations;
follow-up of compliance obligations (European, ITM, Labour Law etc.) in the field of health, safety and the environment, as well as the proposal of improvement measures;
management of relationships with external partners: ITM, Luxembourg Ministry of Health, AAA, Aid services etc.;
development of procedures, policies and guidelines for the safety of visitors and subcontractors, evacuation of buildings, management of work-related accidents, waste management, establishment of security registers, etc.;
set-up and hosting of a decentralized organization with safety advisors;
training and information on health and safety matters for LIST employees;
weekly time slots for the supervision of facilities and primary emergency interventions.
Finally, the Health, Safety & Environment Engineer will be one of LIST’s certified safety officers (“travailleurs désignés”). If the applicant is not yet certified, a complete training session will be offered to him/her to obtain this statute.
Master's degree in a technical field (Chemistry, Chemical engineering, Physics, …); an additional degree in Health & Safety is an asset;
Significant knowledge of chemistry or chemical engineering will be considered as a strong asset;
Significant laboratory experience (as a researcher, experienced laboratory technician or equipment supervisor) in a research or industrial environment is mandatory;
Skills in risk analysis methodologies;
Strong organizational and communication skills;
Excellent command of English and French.

The Security, Compliance and Quality department, under the responsibility of the Chief Human Resources Officer, supports the RDI departments in matters related to safety, quality, compliance, data protection and scientific integrity.
One of the department’s main objectives is to develop, implement and follow-up LIST’s hygiene, health and safety policy. The department is also involved in environmental preservation issues, the coordination of compliance obligations (laws, regulations, and current standards) and the definition of risk management mechanisms.
