Purpose of the job
The Senior Tax Specialist provides effective support to the Tax Manager and Finance management on domestic and foreign tax issues in Europe. To accomplish his/her tasks, 10% of travelling maybe required.
He/she reports to the Tax Manager Europe.
Tax accounting responsibilities
Collaborate with accountants and consultants for the preparation of (in)direct tax returns on a local and European level.
Participate to the defence of company’s position during local country tax audits.
Provide an information source in the tax area within the company.
Contribute to the maintenance of the transfer pricing documentation.
Participate with the Tax Manager for real estate, corporate acquisitions and tax optimization projects.
Prepare the tax related financial reporting under US GAAP (ASC 740).
Prepare income tax payment calculations, quarterly-end accrual and the tax provision.
Collaborate with external auditor at year-end.
Strive for continual improvement of Shurgard’s tax process, especially VAT compliance set-up.
Collaborate on other tax projects as they arise.
Process and systems
Contribute to European projects: systems, integration of new entities, maintenance of policies and procedures.
Work with the legal department and the finance department to establish and monitor the enhancement of goals and objectives.
Collaborate with the other department staff.
Minimum Bachelor Degree in Economics or Law, preferably with tax specialization or similar through experience.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in tax within an international context.
Solid VAT knowledge.
Experience in US GAAP or IFRS is a strong asset.
Problem solver who identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyses information skilfully and develops alternative solutions.
Being analytical and able to synthesize diverse information.
Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
Keeps abreast of current developments in the tax & accounting area.

Being professional and well-organized.
Fluent knowledge of English is required.
Other European language skills are considered as an asset.
Working knowledge of MS Office applications.
An advanced level in Excel.
